RSS Feeds
are a simple tool that delivers news directly to you as soon as it is published online. It means you can receive new stories and show information instantly, rather than having to look for the latest updates online. RSS also makes it much easier to browse headlines from lots of different sites in one place.

Many different websites, including The Grand Theatre (blackpoolgrand.co.uk), offer news and other content in the form of RSS feeds. With a feed reading application (sometimes also called a 'news reader') on your computer, you can keep track of feeds from as many different sources as you like.

Choosing a News Reader

A number of different news readers are available. Some require you to pay a fee to download them; others are available for free. Here are some that you may want to try out:

For Windows: NewzCrawler, FeedDemon, RSS Bandit.

For Mac OS X: NewsFire, NetNewsWire.

Web-based: Bloglines, Google Reader, NewsGator.

Some modern web browsers - including Firefox, Opera, Safari for Mac OSX 10.4 and Internet Explorer 7 - can automatically pick up RSS feeds for you, and convert them into bookmark-like links. If you are using one of these web browsers you can access our RSS feeds without having to download additional software. For more details on these, please check their websites.

Deciding on the Content

Once you have a News Reader, the next step is to decide on the content that you want. We currently provide two feeds, and intend to provide more in the future. There are different ways of getting the information into you news reader; check its documentation to find out which one(s) you can use:

* Drag an orange RSS button into your News Reader
* Right-click on the orange RSS button, copy the link location and paste into your News Reader
* Click on the RSS button itself. It may open in your news reader, or may show you means of importing the feed into your web-based reader.

Using our RSS feeds

The free RSS feeds we provide are intended for personal use and for republishing on other websites. If you are a commercial organisation and wish to discuss content syndication with us, please contact the webmaster at ecomm@blackpoolgrand.co.uk.
