Blackpool's Grand Theatre scoops two top awards for the second time in four weeks!

Blackpool’s beautiful Grand Theatre won two top awards at the resort’s annual Tourism Awards on Tuesday 31st March. This follows the double honour Blackpool’s Grand also received at the first ever Radio Wave Culture & Lifestyle Awards in association with ReBlackpool on March 12th.

The Grand scooped the Entertainment Award for the theatre’s exciting and eclectic year round programme and the Marketing and Innovation Award for its spooky theatre-based Supernatural Events at this year’s prestigious Tourism Awards which took place at the Pleasure Beach’s Globe Theatre.

North West Tonight’s Ranvir Singh hosted this year’s innovative event which also offered a free tourism masterclass conference designed to demonstrate ways of attracting and retaining customers and travel writer Simon Calder of The Independent gave an enlightening keynote speech on Travel and Tourism.

The Grand also recently picked up the Live Entertainment Award and the Lifetime Achievement Award at a glittering ceremony at Blackpool’s Tower ballroom on Thursday 12th March at the Radio Wave Culture & Lifestyle Awards following extensive voting exclusively by the local community. Blackpool-based radio station Radio Wave had previously asked listeners to choose their favourite local business in a selection of categories. The three shortlisted businesses in each category attended on the evening to find out who had claimed each prize.

Blackpool’s Grand Theatre General Manager and Chief Executive, Neil Thomson collected the awards at both ceremonies on behalf of the theatre. He said: “The Grand is truly thrilled to have been celebrated by the local community – both from theatregoers and our tourism peers. These awards are very important to us as people from all around the Fylde Coast have once again come forward and showed their affection for The Grand old lady of Blackpool, who has been entertaining families all year round since 1894. We are, as ever, extremely grateful for this continued support and look forward to bringing commercial and artistic productions to Blackpool and the Fylde peninsular.”

Stephen Mercer of Supernatural Events said: “It is a wonderful achievement for Supernatural Events to win this Blackpool Tourism Award. When Supernatural Events formed in 2007 there was, at most, one ghost tour per month. Not even two years later there are around four or five tours plus other special events each month! Thanks must go to the management and staff at the various locations where tours are held. I also want to thank the directors, management and all the staff at the Grand Theatre, where the tours began. Without them Supernatural Events wouldn’t exist! Look out for more exciting ghost tours and walks to be announced soon... there are more eerie events on their way.”
