NORTH WEST TOURISM AWARDS - OCTOBER 2007

Blackpool’s Grand Theatre is hoping to click into first place with its website at the North West Tourism Awards this October.

The Grand Theatre, Blackpool’s forward-thinking website clicked away the competition to scoop first prize at the fourth annual Lancashire and Blackpool Tourism Awards on 20th June 2007.

And now it’s hoping to do it again at England’s North West Tourism Awards on 10th  October!

The panel of judges at the Lancashire & Blackpool Tourism Awards agreed the theatre’s website "ticked all the boxes in meeting the criteria set with an attractive design, presenting the operator in an interesting and informative way" and awarded Tourism Website of the Year to the Grand Theatre at a glittering ceremony at the De Vere Heron’s Reach Hotel.

The Grand Theatre's website has now been put forward for England’s North West Tourism Awards at Manchester Central on October 10th with the chance to progress through to the national Enjoy England Awards for Excellence next April.

Grand Theatre's eCommerce Manager, Andrew Howard, said: "We are very excited to have been put through to regional awards level. The Grand Theatre's website is not just about telling people 'what’s on' with dates and times - but giving visitors a more visual experience. We’re thrilled with the recognition we have already received for all our hard work and are hoping for a very positive result on the night.

"A huge amount of research and development has gone into the site since its conception and with visitor numbers tripling over the past year it makes all the efforts worthwhile – we now get over half a million unique visitors a year!

"Whatever the result on 10th October my aim is to keep pushing the theatre’s site forward - developing a greater online customer service and experience. We're already looking at releasing new services like improved e-bulletin services and an informative e-Newsletter for individuals and school teachers."

On Wednesday 20 June 2007 in the stunning De Vere Heritage Heron Reach Hotel, before 270 dignitaries and guests from Lancashire’s tourism, the winners of the Lancashire & Blackpool Tourism Awards 2007/2008 were announced in a stunning ceremony. The Awards Ceremony was presented by BBC North West's Dave Guest.
