The Grand Theatre runs many competitions throughout the year for individual children or schools.

Our competitions are aimed to encourage children to either work together as a team enhancing their social skills or as individuals embracing their artistic talents. We also offer competitions for teachers and schools as a whole.

A 'SIGNED' COPY OF ALAN BENNETT'S BOOK

THE HISTORY BOYS - Open to all Teachers.
Closing date was 16th October 2007

Alan Bennett is an acclaimed English author and Tony Award-winning actor. Bennett's critically-acclaimed The History Boys won three Olivier Awards in February 2005, for Best New Play, Best Actor (Richard Griffiths), and Best Direction (Nicholas Hytner), having previously won Critics' Circle Theatre Awards and Evening Standard Awards for Best Actor and Best Play. Bennett himself received an Olivier Award for Outstanding Contribution to British Theatre.

DANNY THE CHAMPION OF THE WORLD - Open to all Children
Closing date was 10th December 2007
The Grand Theatre Blackpool invited children of all ages to enter a design competition. Children were asked to design a bold and bright poster on A4 paper or card. The two winners were invited to the opening evening performance of DANNY THE CHAMPION OF THE WORLD at the Grand Theatre as our special guests with three members of their family and friends. They had a photograph with the cast backstage, a cast signed poster and a programme of the production. The winning design will also be placed on the Grand Theatre’s website for all their friends and family to see.

ARTS SHOWCASE
ART OF THE THEATRE POSTER - Open to all Children

Closing date 10th December 2006
The Grand Theatre Blackpool invited children of all ages to enter a chance in a lifetime competition. Children were asked to design a bold and bright poster on A4 paper or card. The theme of the design was the Grand’s pantomime DICK WHITTINGTON. Ideas could include: Dick Whittington and his cat, the journey on the ship to the palace or the Grand Theatre cast on stage… The main idea was to make the poster as bright as they possibly could. The winner was chosen upon criteria of story interpretation, and how this might be realised in the use of colour, graphics and other imaginative readings of the poster potential.

COMPETITION OF DISCOVERY
EUREKA! - Open to all Children

Closing date was 21st November 2006
The Grand Theatre Blackpool in conjunction with UK Productions Ltd, Blackpool Council (Children and Young People's Department), Blackpool’s district Libraries, and local media offered one of the most exciting competitions for schools and children’s groups including Scouts, Brownies and Cubs etc. EUREKA – a competition of discovery…, asked groups of children to discover 40 very special items and attach them to a competition form. Items will include: a picture of the Mayor of London, a cork, a cat’s bell, an old penny, and a stamp from a foreign country. This competition encouraged a group or class of young people to work together, with the assistance of teachers/group leaders. Children worked with their parents, grandparents and guardians in the search for their group entry. The winner, Mereside Primary School (Year 1) - Langdale Road, Blackpool recived two great prizes: A private Story Telling by members of the Grand Theatre’s pantomime cast at their school plus tickets for the entrants to the pantomime this year Dick Whittington with a meet the cast after the show and group photograph.
