Get ready for the infectious rhythms of
African Music Night
at Blackpool’s Grand Theatre on October 7th & 8th
Enjoy two amazing evening performances at the Grand with this year's African Music Night where audiences will experience the full power of Batanaimarimba and over 500 enthusiastic pupils per evening!
Blackpool’s Grand Theatre welcomes back Wedzi and the World Muzik Makers from South Africa on Tuesday 7th and Wednesday 8th October for another fantastic African Music Night with the drum-beating, gourd shaking Batanaimarimba band.
Blackpool Music Service has invited Wedzi and his friends from Cape Town to return for a third consecutive year by popular demand to share their cultural and traditional music-making experiences and performances.
Wedzi is a director of World Muzik Makers which is a non profit, cultural arts-in-education organisation that uses the arts to stimulate awareness and understanding of different African cultures, through workshops, performances and project work. The organisation consists of experienced artists, teachers and musicians who use music, dance and theatre as educational tools.
Using a variety of traditional instruments such as the marimba (large wooden xylophones), the mbira, the hosho (traditional gourd shakers) and the ngoma (drums), they promote understanding, develop skills and communicate ideas through different rhythms, movements and other art forms.
Last year’s African Music Night at the Grand was sensational and had capacity audiences singing and dancing. This year, Blackpool Music Service’s Music Advisor, Andrew White, has asked them to provide new programmes of work for sixteen Primary Schools from across the borough and they have also agreed to provide two exciting community workshops. This will culminate in two amazing evening performances at the Grand where audiences will experience the full power of Batanaimarimba and over 500 enthusiastic pupils per evening!
All seats are £4 (£3 concessions) for African Music Night at the Grand Theatre, Blackpool on Tuesday 7th October and Wednesday 8th October at 7pm and are on sale now from the Grand Theatre Box Office.
