The Grand is excited to welcome back the popular sitcom ‘Some Mothers Do ‘Ave ‘Em’; a classic gem in British comedy history. Filled with fun and hilarious mishaps, this show graced British televisions for a short period but made an impact to last a lifetime.
Join us as we count down our 5 favourite moments from the 3 part series.
1. Classic Toilet Humour
What sitcom would be complete without some crude but classic toilet humour? This eventful scene sees the beloved klutz Frank attempt to navigate a newly installed toilet, courtesy of Betty’s brother, the avid inventor. Obviously this seemingly simple habit soon turns disastrous when the toilet not only malfunctions but also sees our hero with a face full of u-bend.
2.Driving Debacle
Learning to drive is always an interesting, albeit slightly stressful experience for us all, but who can forget Frank’s entertaining experience behind the wheel? From near-miss collisions to mowing down cyclists, Frank’s journey ultimately leads him to a wrong turn, an airport runway and a very, very stressed instructor. “Mirror, signal, manoeuvre” is the memorable catchphrase of this scene and one which will remain in our memories as a loveable classic.
3.Roller Derby Disaster
While we all enjoy seeing our hapless hero traverse the struggles of daily life, there’s only one way in which we can double the fun – wheels! This priceless episode sees Frank don his roller skates, only to cause calamity on the roads after picking up too much speed in the roller rink. An unmissable classic which left us roaring with laughter.

4.Frank the Ventriloquist
At number 4, we recount Frank’s adventure as he struggles to establish himself as a holiday camp entertainer. With his ventriloquist dummy Marvin at hand (a terrifying gorilla with the head of a human doll), the duo attempt to audition for the role, only to watch things descend into anarchy upon Frank’s showcase of the “Human Vesuvius” where he strapped fireworks to his body in an effort to impress.
5. Christmas Calamity
No list would be complete without throwing in a seasonal special. In this fiercely funny Christmas themed episode, Frank’s beloved missus, Betty struggles to keep ahold of her sanity as Frank brings home the family ‘Christmas tree’, or rather, part of it. An episode full of festive cheer and unforgettable humour and a great way to end our countdown.
There’s no question about it, Some Mothers Do ‘Ave ‘Em is one for the ages. Though it was short lived, it needn’t be missed. Revisit Frank and the gang at The Grand theatre, Blackpool for some gut-busting giggles and nostalgia with this timeless classic.
