The Grand Theatre, Blackpool is celebrating its 120th birthday year by giving theatregoers a fantastic offer to see Headlong Theatre’s 5-star, critically acclaimed stage adaptation of George Orwell’s 1984 when it plays its only dates in the North West this autumn.

Blackpool Grand is pleased to announce that it will be offering 120 pairs of tickets for £19.84 a pair to the opening night performance of 1984 on Tuesday 30 September!

To claim your two tickets for £19.84, simply quote BIRTHDAY120 when booking online (blackpoolgrand.co.uk) over the counter or on the phone (01253 290190).

A spokesperson for the Grand Theatre said:

“The Grand is proud to be able to bring Headlong’s daring and innovative production of 1984 to Blackpool following its highly acclaimed West End run. 1984 is only travelling to seven other venues and with this offer to celebrate our 120th anniversary year we want to enable the people of Blackpool, Wyre, Fylde and beyond the opportunity to come and enjoy an unforgettable night out at our theatre.”

Robert Icke and Duncan Macmillan’s mesmerising and chilling version of George Orwell’s dystopian masterpiece 1984 started its first tour at Nottingham Playhouse in 2013, before transferring to a 10-week sell-out run in London. Now Headlong Theatre takes this exceptional and unique performance on a second national tour to only eight venues, of which The Grand is proud to be one. Having been nominated for an Olivier Award in the ‘Best New Play’ category, to host this production is a real coup for Blackpool and the theatre.

George Orwell’s 1984, published in 1949, is one of the most influential novels in recent history, attaining a cult status with its chilling depiction of perpetual war, pervasive government surveillance and incessant public mind control. Its ideas have become our ideas, and Orwell’s fiction is often said to be our reality.

The Grade II* listed Grand Theatre first opened its doors on 23 July 1894, having been built by the leading Victorian architect Frank Matcham. It still remains as one of the few surviving examples of his work.

Since its opening The Grand has hosted a multitude of stars, from Lily Langtree to Michael McIntyre, Gracie Fields to Ken Dodd, and even more recently Lee Evans and Dawn French who performed on Blackpool Grand’s historic stage this summer!

Throughout its 120 years, The Grand has also attracted the very best in award-winning touring companies, including The National Theatre, English Touring Theatre, The Royal Shakespeare Company, Opera and Ballet International, and the Russian State Ballet.

To purchase one of The Grand’s 120 pairs of tickets for £19.84 for the opening night performance of 1984, simply telephone 01253 290190 or visit the Grand Theatre box office on Church Street, Blackpool.
