Blackpool’s Grand Theatre launches its new School Gift Vouchers with the Blackpool Primary Heads.
Blackpool’s Grand runs a full programme of workshops for children and young people, in and out of school, focused on improving literacy, social skills and confidence.
Last year, 10,000 school children benefitted from discounted tickets to see performances at the theatre. A further 3,000 young people performed on the stage as part of Au Revoir Review and Schools Alive. And 30 local schools are part of our literacy project in partnership with the Royal Shakespeare Company.
With so much interest in how organisations and individuals can help fund our schools programme The Grand has created School Gift Vouchers that can be purchased in denominations of £30 each, available from its box office.
Graeme Dow, Lead Member of Blackpool Primary Heads and Head of Anchorsholme Academy who the theatre worked with on creating the vouchers said; ‘It’s a great initiative and allows organisations, businesses and individuals to purchase vouchers and donate them to their local school.
‘As Lead Member of Blackpool Primary Heads, we recently purchased nearly £5,000 worth of vouchers to be distributed across 31 school, each receiving £150 allowing the school to use them against shows like Pantomime, Quality Drama and Dance.
‘This year Blackpool’s Grand Theatre Blackpool will stage The Jungle Book, one of Rudyard Kipling’s greatest classics. A production we are highly encouraging schools to attend next year.’
Marketing Manager Andrew Howard said, ‘School Gift Vouchers provide an incredible way for people to donate to their local school and support the great work they are doing. Schools are now under great pressure to make funding go further.
We believe these School Gift Vouchers will help parents, businesses, organisations help children gain a first experience in the arts.
‘The Grand aims to be the theatre of choice for Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre and to offer opportunities to enjoy, participate and learn through the arts.’
