The UK Comedy Hotspots! Here at Blackpool Grand, we absolutely love comedy. Knowing that Brits share our fondness of a laugh, stand up and entertainment, we wanted to find out where in the UK the comedy hotspots are and how these compare to our locals and visitors who regularly attend comedy shows at The Grand. So, we decided to conduct a study!

The ultimate comedy hotspots in the UK

We took a deep dive into data, to find out where the most UK-born comedians are from, and combined this with local comedy clubs and venues in the biggest towns and cities in the UK – all to decipher who likes a laugh the most!

From our research, it doesn’t really matter where you live in the UK when it comes to finding a show… there are lots of comedy venues dotted around the country for you to enjoy a giggle. And there are quite a few comedians born in each town that may actually come as a surprise to you! Who knew you could be living in the birthplace of some of the most famous comedians in the UK.

We have ranked each town and city taking into account the number of venues and number of comedians born, and here are the results:

Comedy is now back!

Comedy in the UK is back at last! Over the past year and a half, we haven’t had much to laugh about with all the restrictions in place but now that has eased and we have some normality back, we can enjoy something that brings us all together: a comedy show!

Theatres and comedy clubs alike have been busy putting together shows for you all to enjoy so why not arrange an evening out with some friends at one of the popular comedy venues to see your favourite comedians?

Methodology

Population data was gathered from Urbistat which gives a breakdown of UK population per city and town. For this campaign, we used the most populated towns and cities. We then researched comedy locations per town and city with the help of list.co.uk which documents all the comedy shows happening per town city and where to watch them. We then compiled a list of 300+ well known UK-based comedians and recorded the part of the UK they were born in using data from Wikipedia. This gave us the top location for comedy venues and the total number of comedians born in parts of the UK.
