Call out for volunteer physical performers to take part in Spymonkey’s Cooped

We are looking for female & male volunteer physical performers to be Screaming Lady / Dummy in Cooped. The Screaming Lady is the first character the audience see but is then “murdered” before the show starts proper; the Dummy is a swap for an actual dummy at the end of the show and is the last character the audience see before the curtain call.

The Screaming Lady will need to be 5’4” – 5’ 6 in height, dress size 8 – 14. To provide own shoes (black or white court style) and make-up [the look is 1960s]. The key requirement is to be able to make prolonged, loud high-pitched screams.

The Dummy will need to be height 5’9” – 5’11” with a slim build, shoe size 9–10. They will be wearing a full head latex mask (so anyone with even mild claustrophobia would not be suitable) through which they will deliver a loud, murderous roar.

Costumes will be provided.

We would require both participants to be at the venue an hour before curtain up for the first show for a rehearsal with the cast and crew.

For subsequent performances by the same people the Screaming Lady would need to be in the venue at the half call (ie an hour before curtain up); the Dummy in the venue during the interval (an hour after curtain up).

The Screaming Lady would be free to leave 5 mins after curtain up. Should they wish to see the show there is a latecomers point at which they could enter the auditorium (from FoH)

The Dummy may watch Act I of a performance prior to coming backstage at the interval.

We’d be very grateful if you could conduct an initial sift of volunteers prior to sending the details of those who meet the above criteria, along with their availability, to our Stage Manager, Andy McCabe andymccabe@spymonkey.co.uk. He will then confirm performance times personally to each volunteer.
